1. Reduce your LDL and Increase HDL through the use of virgin coconut oil

One reason the polyunsaturates cause so many health problems is that they
tend to become oxidized or rancid when subjected to heat, oxygen and

_Recipe of the month_

Cacao Hemp Latte
This recipe is lovely when you are craving something chocolaty and warm
during the winter months. Make a “latte” with hemp milk and superfoods. This
recipe is delicious, easy to make and heart-healthy due to magnesium-rich
cacao!

1/3 cup hemp seeds
4 cups hot water
1 tsp maca
1 tsp vanilla powder
1 Tbsp tocotrienols
2-3 Tbsp raw cacao powder
¼ cup agave nectar or raw honey
Blend hemp seeds with water until frothy. Blend in the rest of the
ingredients and adjust flavors to your liking. Top with a sprinkling

Young Women:  Breast Cancer Prevention Information, Alarming Last Place
Two local businesses take notice:  Young Women unhappy with shortage of prevention methods; seek more empowering options

Young women are fed-up with watching their mothers, aunts and family members go through painful, heart wrenching treatments only to leave them wondering if something could have been done to prevent breast cancer in the first place.  The findings are gleaned from what is becoming a daily deluge of comments and questions for non-profit group Keep a Breast Foundation (KAB) and healthcare facility North Coast Wellness Center (NCWC).

More striking is the idea that these young women are asking questions because they realize that they themselves may be the next victim of a disease that is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today (after lung cancer) and is the most common cancer among women, excluding nonmelanoma skin cancers. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1.3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer annually worldwide and about 465,000 women will die from the disease.

According to Dr. Paul Paez, D.C. Director of NCWC, young woman today are more driven and passionate about being healthy than previous generations.  “They are also more interested in taking control of their own lives instead just waiting to do whatever the doctor tells them to do”, says Dr. Paez.
That is why many young women in North County are seeking help from KAB and NCWC. October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and soKAB and NCWC have partnered up to distribute much needed information about breast cancer prevention, early detection and support.

For the entire month of October all new patients seen at NCWC will be given either a free acupuncture or chiropractic exam plus one treatment session in exchange for a $5 donation to the Keep a Breast Foundation.  Patients will also receive a goodie bag full of tips on breast cancer prevention options and a signature “Keep a Breast I Love Boobies” campain bracelet.  In addition, in an effort to support the ongoing need for Breast Cancer Awareness, NCWC will give 1% of all massage service proceeds to the KAB Foundation.

Drink Water…Lose Weight

 

 

Dr. Brenda Davy, senior author of a recent study, told the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) that took place August 22-26 in Boston said that her team’s study was the first randomized controlled clinical trial to show that increasing water intake is an effective way to lose weight.
Dr. Davy’s team found that study participants who drank two cups of water before each meal lost an average of 5 pounds more weight over a 12-week calorie controlled diet than those who followed the same diet but did not drink the water.
Dr. Davy said they found, “Over the course of 12 weeks, dieters who drank water before meals, three times per day, lost about 5 pounds more than dieters who did not increase their water intake.”  She urged people to cut down on sugary, high calorie drinks and drink more water and said, “It’s a simple way to facilitate weight management.”
Dr. Davy indicated that while there are lots of anecdotal reports, some going back a long time, that water can help people lose weight, there is surprisingly little scientific evidence. Some studies have alluded to it, but this is the first “gold standard” clinically controlled trial to have looked at the claim by comparing those that did and those that did not drink water before meals.
Drinking water before meals works because it has no calories but causes you to feel partly full before you even start eating, resulting in fewer calories consumed during the meal.

Sometimes it is hard to imagine why any of this should be news.  In truth, it is news because we, as a culture, have gotten so far removed from healthy living and having healthy lifestyles.  It should be simple, common sense that the notion of eating well and drinking sufficient amounts of pure water contributes to one’s health, well-being and healthy weight loss.  So, the Bottom Line this week is that your best bet to stay healthy is to have a healthy lifestyle.  Imagine that!

Top Health Care Myths  

 

Myth #1Drugs prevent disease 
Drugs do not prevent disease and drugs are not vitamins.  Drugs, at best, help make people comfortable and manage symptoms but do not prevent disease…never have.  Today, the drug makers are recommending drugs for healthy people to try and prevent health problems.
And, add to this the major Ad campaigns run by the drug makers to try and influence you that you SHOULD be taking something.   

Myth #2Hospitals are the place to go for health and healing 
Emergency rooms and emergency room MD’s do a great job saving lives BUT… To promote health and healing, hospitals are the very last place you want to find yourself.  Hospitals are generally unhealthy places infested with antibiotic-resistant superbugs.  Many hospitals serve both un-apetizing and unhealthy foods and lack proper sunlight.  No one has ever had a good night’s sleep in a hospital.  Add to this the potentially deadly mistakes with drugs and surgical procedures that now appear to be frighteningly common in U.S. hospitals.

Seems the flu shot is another medical myth worth noting.  According to Dr. Gary Null of the Progressive Radio Network, if the government insists on submitting the American population to a vaccine with a higher risk of adverse effects than its demonstrated effectiveness in preventing the flu, “We will have entered a new medical twilight zone, where true science, responsible medical practice, and reliable public health become virtually nonexistent.”  Wow!

Research presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in Washington DC, found that diet induced “epigenetic” DNA modifications can be passed to future generations.  In other words, what you eat can affect your children’s and grandchildren’s health, even if they eat healthy themselves.

Myth #1People lose their health because of bad luck or bad genetics 
This medical myth will have you believe that disease strikes without cause and therefore the patient cannot do anything to prevent disease through healthy lifestyle choices.  Medicine considers itself scientific (another myth) but fails to acknowledge that all disease always has a cause and that often, that cause has to do with improper nervous system function, toxicity, nutritional deficiencies and a lack of exercise.  Disease is almost never a matter of bad luck or bad genes.

_Top Ten Worst Foods – Part 1 of 4_

According to Dr. Ian Hoffman, knowing which foods damage the nervous system
is a new approach to determining which foods are the culprits that should be
avoided the most. If you want to have as healthy a functioning nervous
system as possible; in addition to regular chiropractic care, these are the
top 10 foods to avoid:

_#1 Hydrogenated Oils (Trans fats/ artificial fats)_
It has been known by the food industry for over forty years that trans fats
are extremely unhealthy. Hydrogenated oils lead to systemic inflammation,
cancer, heart disease, hardening of the arteries and hormone imbalances.
These oils are man made, very similar in composition to plastic, and block
the absorption of vitamins A, D, E, K, and the healthy essential fatty acids
(Omega-3).

_#2 Artificial Sweeteners (Aspartame, Splenda, and Sweet & Low)

All should be avoided. Aspartame, the active ingredient in NutraSweet and
many brands of diet soda, is by far the most dangerous. NutraSweet breaks
down into methanol, formic acid and formaldehyde. NutraSweet’s toxicity
mimics autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, and chronic
fatigue. There has been an incredible explosion of people diagnosed with
these terrible diseases in recent years. Also, aspartame is a known
neurological excitotoxin which means it has the ability to severely damage
the brain and nervous system.
